I had plans of being two months into my five-month PAT practice schedule when we kissed 2023 goodbye, but my body had different plans. Just over a week ago, I coughed and realized that I might have done something more than just clearing my throat. My suspicions were confirmed this week and I have been diagnosed with an umbilical hernia. While this is not uncommon and typically harmless and painless, mine has pain that I’m not accustomed to. So, after being poked and prodded at the VA, I have more appointments scheduled to see what the plan going forward will be.
What’s this doing for my golf game and practice schedule? Well, it’s been on hold for a bit now. I asked the doc about some plans I have in the spring, and he suggested that I wait until after the plans to have surgery, if surgery is required. When he said that, I thought there was no reason that I couldn’t hit balls after my appointment, so I did. But I paid for it! There was some extra pain, but I was itching to swing a club!
I was told about a hernia belt that could help me continue preparing and moving forward in my journey, so as soon as Amazon gets that thing here, I hope to be back to my preparation calendar. Until then, you can find me on the putting green dialing in those 3–6-foot putts.
Until next time, or until I see you on the course, thanks for reading! Take care!
