Over the years of playing golf, I’ve had one thing in mind, to get better. As a perfectionist, my main frustration is improving my game to a certain level and then falling off the wagon, so to speak, by playing a level of golf that I surpassed months ago. It’s that whole 1-step forward, 2-steps back concept that I’m sure everyone understands. In years past, this has happened to me during the beginning of the golf season. I normally don’t play or practice as much during the winter just because the weather isn’t the greatest. So, I don’t improve during the off-season, and it shows when I start playing again.
With this new mindset of having a destination instead of a bunch of goals, I have a plan in place to practice and play during the winter months. I have a daily practice schedule that gives me things to do every day, except for Sundays. I plan to take the day off and just relax on Sundays. I have started this practice plan, but I’ve not seen immediate results. Actually, it’s just the opposite. I feel like I’m in the process of taking that second step back. But I have to trust the process.
With a growth mindset, focus and persistence is key for results. I have to understand that immediate improvement of my scores isn’t the goal. While I’m following this plan, there may be things that I need to work on and fix in order to see the best results in the future. I just need to be patient and trust the process.
Are you trusting the process to improve your game? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Until next time, or until I see you on the course, thanks for reading and take care!
